Introduction
Linge Gowda hails from a farming community but after his studies he joined the excise department as Inspector. During his tenure, he saw the plight of women folk from close quarters.
Many farmers and labourers have become addicted to alcohol and he decided to work for prohibiton. Along with iother movement groups, he was instrumental in organising a 800-km march from North Karnataka to the capital city.
The 42-year old activist has also worked with the dalits. In fact, he was so active in demanding a CBI enquiry following the death of a Dalit DC in Kolar and related activist work irked his superiors who made sure that he was terminated.
However, that did not stop the anti-liquor crusader from reaching out to the villagers and collectivising them.
